The students to think analytically. A group of students

The 2013 Curriculum is claimed that it is different
from the previous one, School-Based
Curriculum (KTSP), in several aspects. This curriculum was believed as a brand-new curriculum
that will recall the natural need of education which is character building. This curriculum is also called charactered curriculum with
authentic assessment included in it. By implementing 2013 Curriculum, it
is expected that Indonesia can promote its national education, intended to
empower teachers to develop the competency in learning activities relevant to
the learners’ need, based on actual condition of the school, and the necessity
which is linked to the environment.

The emphasis of
2013 Curriculum is not only to enlarge attitude competence, skill, and
knowledge, but also to make them balanced. In the draft of 2013 Curriculum,
school aimed to be able to create the future generation who has intelligent
comprehensive not only his intellectual understanding, but also social
intelligent, emotional and spiritual. Therefore, the competence of graduates
should include attitude, knowledge, and skill in accordance with the agreed
National Standards (Sholeh Hidayat, 2013, pp. 113).

In studying
English, the government has set the rules in the curriculum. Related to the
latest curriculum in Indonesia, which implements scientific approach that has
been running for about 4 years, it is dealing with the teachers’ point
of view while implementing it.
These standpoints will be really essential to find out as 2013 Curriculum
has given so many pros and cons among the teachers all over Indonesia,
especially in Pekanbaru in which 2013
Curriculum is still new for some
schools. Many teachers are still complaining about the
implementation of this curriculum and find it difficult. Another problem, many
teachers who want to learn about 2013 Curriculum, but not all of them get
chance to follow the training of 2013 Curriculum.

On the other
hand, 2013 Curriculum seems to be very troublesome for
students if it is not organized effectively. The transformation from the
teacher-based center to the student-based center is supposed to give many
beneficial to the students, because it inquires the students to think
analytically.

A group of students really enjoy this kind of learning
activity. They think it is very amusing and challenging, but for some students
particularly students who have less confident, this learning activity make them
feeling anxiety. They see themselves as imperfect and cannot disclose
their true self to the other students. Their heart beat faster, or they felt
nervous, cannot concentrate and couldn’t speak what they want to convey. Most
of time, the students who are talking in teaching learning process are the same
students.  But they admit that they acquire the information from
group discussions, especially about factual situations, so that their
understandings become extensive.

In learning English subject, the students become well
informed about how they are going to use English later in their working
environment, or when they study abroad. It is unlike in the History subject,
one of the students’ complains is when most of the learning activities are
discussion not textual, principally they enjoy it and get many lesson to their
life of how they should act after learning from this subject. But
unfortunately, in semester test assessment, the questions that have been asked
are so textual. This situation
makes the students feel that what they have learned in the classroom did not
match with the test. The students are considered qualified to learn the
material by themselves to master the basic competencies which are in the
student’s text book. Whether it is self-sufficiency that demanded in 2013
Curriculum or in fact there is an error in the implementation of teaching and
assessing the students in applying this curriculum.
